Welcome Message From the Director

You are welcome to the Directorate of Quality Assurance (DQA) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
With the commitment of NOUN to ensuring quality delivery of its services, Quality Assurance Unit was created in August 2014 to coordinate the internal quality of academic and operational activities in the institution. This was backed up with the call of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for every federal university to establish a Unit or Directorate of quality assurance. The Quality Assurance Unit of NOUN was upgraded to the Directorate of Quality Assurance on the 14th of October 2021 who on behalf of the University adopts a systematic and comprehensive approach to assure the quality of the University systems and operations through the deployment of a robust quality assurance system that promotes a culture of quality through continuous improvement.

To support the operations of the quality assurance directorate, NOUN created quality assurance cadre for staff in 2023. Interested candidates that met the requirements were employed as Quality Assurance Officers. The staff can move upwards by promotion to the rank of Deputy Director, Quality Assurance. The position of the Director of Quality Assurance is only by appointment by the Vice Chancellor. The quality assurance officers serve as Compliance Officers, and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officers. The compliance officers check if actions are taken as planned. The M&E officers monitor and evaluate academic and operational activities and processes; and provide suggestions for improvement.

The creation of quality assurance cadre made the QA officers independent of other staff activities and therefore removes biases when ensuring compliance, monitoring, and evaluating. The Quality Assurance Directorate uses results-based monitoring that addresses inputs, outputs, outcomes, and impacts. The outcomes of the evaluations are used to review the policies, processes, and procedures of academic and operational activities in the university.

In the Directorate of Quality Assurance, you will have access to the approved policies of the university, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of all academic and operational activities and more.
